Met dank overgenomen van Europees Parlement (EP), gepubliceerd op maandag 10 mei 2021.

Today at 13:00, Russian philanthropist Mikhail Khodorkovsky will speak in the Committee on Foreign Interference about the Kremlin's interference in EU affairs.

Date: Monday, 10 May 2021, 13:00-14:00

Venue: ANTALL 6Q2 and via websteaming

The meeting with Mikhail Khodorkovsky is being held in association with the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the EP Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who currently lives in London, is the founder of the Dossier Center, an investigative project aiming to uncover the criminal activities of various people associated with the Kremlin.

In 2001, the philanthropist and former CEO of the Russian oil company Yukos established the Open Russia Foundation to work for a stronger civil society in Russia. A critic of Russian president Vladimir Putin, he was imprisoned in 2003 on charges of fraud and tax evasion. He denied the charges and Amnesty International declared him a prisoner of conscience. After President Putin's pardon, he was released in 2013. In 2014, the Hague Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled that the Russian Government had violated international law by taking Yukos over from its shareholders for political purposes.
