This TEW consiting of an interinstitutional information stand, a presentation about translating for the EU and a round table discussion will take place in the frameworkof the two-yearly ‘Tolk-en Vertaalcongres’(Translation and Interpretation Conference).

  • The EU information stand will allow for personal and targeted communication with all kinds of visitors, and for the provision of concrete information on the linguistic activities of the EU-institutions, as well as on the Commission Representation and its Field Office in the Netherlands
  • a round table discussion about the future of the translation profession, in light of new technologies and other recent developments, with participation of DGT and European representatives of national translation industry associations.

Background information:

The aim of this two-yearly conference is to foster sustainable cooperation between translation and interpretation agencies on the one hand, and freelance translators and interpreters on the other. The conference also aims to further employability of (young) professionals and allow them to meet (new) clients. During the 2020 edition of the ‘Tolk-en Vertaalcongres’, a‘covenant’ (cooperation agreement) will be ratified between the Netherlands Association of Translation Companies (VVIN) and at least two associations of independent translators (NGTV, VZV). The covenant contains the core principles of business cooperation between translation service providers and their subcontractors (translators and revisers), and is entirely based on mutual consent. This initiative follows the example of the Hungarian Translation Industry Cooperation Agreement in 2013. It required almost two years of intense negotiations between the associations, that were (partly) facilitated by the EC field officer in the Netherlands.

Europese Commissie (EC)
