The Directive was adopted on 17 April 2019. Some of the more controversial provisions relate to Text-and-Data Mining (TDM), the new press publisher’s right and a set of new rules on platform liability. The lecture will examine the background, scope and possible implications of these new rules.
Stef van Gompel is associate professor at the Institute for Information Law (IViR) and director of the Glushko & Samuelson Information Law and Policy Lab. On 16 March 2011, he received his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam for his thesis entitled Formalities in Copyright Law: An Analysis of their History, Rationales and Possible Future (Kluwer Law International 2011). He studied law at the University of Amsterdam (2005, cum laude) and Music Management at the Fontys Business College of Higher Education in Tilburg (1999). He is specialized in intellectual property law and, in particular, in national and international copyright law, on which he has written various publications.
