The 2019 UN climate change conference (COP25) took place from 2 to 13 December in Madrid (Spain), under the Presidency of the Government of Chile. The EU and its Member States took part as Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

EU side events

The EU Pavilion at COP25, with two event rooms and a Meet-the-Expert space, hosted a broad set of side events to stimulate debate on key thematic areas, engage observers and facilitate dialogue with party delegates and other participants.

Citizens’ Dialogue: Youth on the European Green Deal

The Citizens’ Dialogue held in Madrid during COP25 invited young people to share their views and ideas for the European Green Deal.

Fractie Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten (S&D)

In het Europees Parlement bestaat sinds juli 2009 de Fractie van de Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten (S&D). De fractie is ontstaan na een overeenkomst tussen de Partij van de Europese Sociaal-Democraten (PES), die verschillende sociaaldemocratische partijen uit Europa verenigt, en de Italiaanse Democratische Partij. De PvdA is bij de S&D aangesloten, evenals bijvoorbeeld de Duitse SPD en de Spaanse PSOE. De Spaanse Iratxe García Pérez is voorzitter van de S&D fractie.

De S&D streeft naar een Europa dat gelijke kansen biedt voor alle burgers, en naar een sociaal Europa.


Directoraat-generaal Klimaat (CLIMA)

Dit directoraat-generaal ontwikkelt het EU-beleid inzake de 'Green Deal'en het tegengaan van klimaatverandering en is verantwoordelijk voor het beheer van projecten en de financiering van programma's die dit beleid ondersteunen.

De commissaris belast met klimaatactie inclusief de 'Green Deal' is verantwoordelijk voor deze opvolger van het directoraat voor Klimaatactie en energie.
