How does Israel stand their ground in a difficult environment? Why does the US support Israel so unconditionally?
Israel has a unique place on the world stage. The country is not recognized by thirty UN-countries, including neighbouring countries and regional powers Iran and Saudi-Arabia. Due to the presence of terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas, Israel is in many respects considered as a country under siege. Combined with few allies in their immediate environment, it follows that Israel has adopted a foreign policy that is completely safety-oriented.
Their lack of allies is largely compensated by the good relationship Israel has with the US. Especially since Donald Trump has become president, their bond has been closer than ever. A development that seems to fit in with Israel’s rapprochement with countries with right-wing populist leaders such as Poland and Hungary. Although the bond between Europe and Israel has always been good, because of its conflict with Palestine, it has increasingly come under pressure in recent years. How sustainable is the relationship between Israel and the rest of the world? We will discuss this and more during these talks!
This event is free of charge! Afterwards, there will be drinks at Café Hemingway!
