The Association Council will review the state of EU-Jordan bilateral relations. It will take stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement and of the EU-Jordan partnership priorities.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will chair the meeting. Ayman Safadi, Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates will lead the Jordanian delegation.
The Association Council will follow-up on the third Brussels conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region which took place on 12-14 March 2019. The EU has allocated more than €2.1 billion to Jordan since the start of the Syria crisis.
The Association Council will discuss cooperation on a number of priorities in the areas of security and counter-terrorism, socio-economic issues, and democracy, human rights and the rule of law.. It will review, in particular, bilateral trade relations and Jordan's economic reform agenda.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi will also have an informal exchange with EU foreign ministers over lunch. The discussion will focus on recent developments in the region.
In the margins of the meeting, High Representative Mogherini and Minister Safadi will sign a Framework Participation Agreement (FPA) on the participation of Jordan in EU crisis management operations.
