ACES invites the Hungarian Philosopher Ágnes Heller for the guest lecture 'The Future of Europe?' on Monday the 15th of April at 16:00 - 18:00.
Ágnes Heller is a Hungarian philosopher and Hannah Arendt Visiting Professor at the New School for Social Research in New York. An author of two dozen books, she is one of the most prominent members of the ‘Budapest School’. Her work explores, among other things, aesthetic theory, the nature of modernity, and the ethics of responsibility.
As Europe is the cradle of modernity, the future of Europe can’t be reviewed separately from the future of modernity. The philosophy of modernity returns to the questions asked by the ancient Philosophers.
But what does European Identity mean in this context? What is the role of cultural memory? What was the moment people started to identify as European? Who is ‘The Other’ against the background of who we describe as Europeans, and how should we describe migration in this context? What is the relevance of the notion of Freedom and which state form fits for the maintenance of the European Identity? In this lecture, the famous Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller, will discuss these questions.
