European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso told Reuters in an interview Wednesday that nationalism and xenophobia is on the rise in Europe. He said the "crisis and the rise in unemployment is an occasion for populist forces to become more aggressive" ahead of the European parliament elections next May.
