MEPs and national MPs will debate "Beyond the crisis: How should Europe respond to the challenges ahead?" at the European Parliament in Brussels on 8 and 9 November 2010. The agenda sets questions about the kind of growth and jobs, and the kind of economic governance, that Europe needs, and how to complete its single market.

The joint parliamentary meeting, starting on Monday at 15.00h, will be co-chaired by European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, Belgian House of Representatives President André Flahaut, and Belgian Senate President Danny Pieters (plenary chamber, 3rd floor, PHS building).

From 15.10h there will be presentations by guest speakers ECB Vice-President Vítor Constâncio and French Autorité des marchés financiers Chairman Jean-Pierre Jouyet, followed by a debate (15.40h to 17.00h) and three working group meetings, on growth and jobs, economic governance, and the single market (17.00h to 19.00h).

On Tuesday at 09.30h, the three working groups' reports will be presented at a plenary session co-chaired by European Parliament Vice-President Miguel Angel Martínez Martínez and Messrs Flahaut and Pieters (plenary chamber, 3rd floor, PHS building).

At 10.00h, there will be statements by Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, for the Council Presidency, and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, followed by a debate, with contributions from the Council and the Commission, until 12.30h.

Messrs Martínez Martínez, Flahaut and Pieters will sum up at 12.30h, and the meeting ends at 12.45h.
