20/04/2012 - The European Humanitarian Aid Voluntary Corps is shaping up. The pilot phase is ongoing and the European Commission will soon prepare a proposal on the future shape of this new structure. But in the meantime, the Corps needs a name. Everybody is invited to make proposals and suggestions. We invite you to join the online public forum and enter your proposals. The forum will be open from April 19 to May 18, 2012.
Based on the selection and opinions expressed on the forum, a high-level jury chaired by the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva will choose the final name that will best reflect this initiative which will give young Europeans an opportunity to get involved in humanitarian aid and help make the difference in the world. The selected name will be announced by the Commissioner and the winner will be invited to Brussels to participate in the launch ceremony.
The European Humanitarian Voluntary Corps was created by the Lisbon Treaty. The initiative will enable European citizens to get engaged in humanitarian operations. The first volunteers are already being trained through pilot projects in several countries around the world. The pilot phase will help us better define the future shape of the Corps.
