Today’s discussions brought the negotiations an important step forward. A number of topics under the EU budget was discussed, such as the policies oriented towards growth and employment.
Considerable challenges remain with regard to bridging Member States’ positions and important work is still ahead before an agreement can be reached. But negotiations are progressing.
In coming meetings in the General Affairs Council remaining topics under the EU budget will be discussed in order to prepare a draft basis for the final agreement, to be discussed at the end of the Danish Presidency with a view to a final agreement by the end of 2012.
Minister for European Affairs, Nicolai Wammen, states:
“Today’s discussions gave a clearer picture of Member States’ positions on a number of topics under the EU budget. Discussions will continue at coming meetings in the General Affairs Council with a view to presenting in the latter half of the Danish Presidency a draft basis for the final agreement. ”
