Always wanted to be close to the ground for coordinating your technical team? Do you have experience in managing cabling/fibres deployment projects? How about taking part in the network development of the world’s largest particle physics laboratory? Keep pace with the accelerated evolution of optical fibre technologies at CERN. Take part!
You will join:
The Department that provides engineering competencies, infrastructure systems, and technical coordination for the world’s largest particle accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.
The Group that is responsible for CERN’s electrical distribution network from 400 kV to 400/230 V. Its main missions are to operate, maintain, extend and renovate the network, analyze and make projections for CERN’s electrical energy consumption and manage relations with the energy suppliers. The group is also in charge of making modifications and extensions to the network when required by new projects, with project studies, equipment procurement, installation, supervising and commissioning.
The Cabling and Optical Fibre Section (CF) is in charge of all the optical cabling at CERN, including optical fibre supply, installation, testing, monitoring and maintenance. This Section is also responsible for the installation of control and DC-power cables in CERN’s accelerators and general infrastructure, and for the standardization of cables, optical fibres, and connectors. The CF Section’s activities are then carried out through external industrial support contracts.
Functions
As an Engineer in the Cabling and Optical Fibre Section, you will actively contribute to the continuous extension, maintenance, and operation of CERN’s optical fibre network constituting the infrastructure for the major communication systems of the various accelerators including CERN’s current leading project: the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
This will involve:
-
-Performing engineering studies of the optical fibre network in view of improving its reliability.
-
-Defining optical cabling strategies, structures and components, installation methodologies, and naming conventions.
