DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Registrar and in coordination with the Director of Court Services, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

-Provides legal advice and support (both orally and in writing) on all substantive and procedural matters relevant to the mandate of the Registry, in particular those related to judicial proceedings before the Court;
-
-Updates the Registrar with relevant developments in the judicial proceedings before the Court and draws the attention of the Registrar and of interested heads of sections on current developments that may impact on the work of the Registry and/or require the intervention of the Registry;
-
-Undertakes legal research and analysis and prepares memoranda and drafts of Registry’s reports to the Chambers and observations under Regulation 24bis of the Regulations of the Court;
-
-Supports legal research undertaken by the different sections of the Registry and provides legal input and analysis as requested;
-
-Appears in Court, represents and makes oral observations on behalf of the Registry;
-
-Conducts and supervises in-depth legal research in international criminal law, humanitarian law, human rights law and other relevant areas of law, on both procedural and substantive issues, and prepares memoranda and tools, in particular with respect to specific projects on matters of concern for the Registry, such as victims and witnesses protection, victims participation and reparation, detention, e-court management, counsel issues, legal assistance, public information and outreach, and/or international cooperation, for consideration by the relevant heads of sections and other interested staff of the Registry;

-Develops and provides internal training and information sessions for Registry staff on relevant issues of international criminal law, humanitarian law, human rights law and other relevant areas of law.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have the following qualifications and experience:

-Advanced university degree in law, with a specialization in international criminal law, international humanitarian law or human rights law;
-
-At least 5 years of relevant and progressively responsible professional experience (7 years with a first level university degree) in international law, including a minimum of 2 years within international criminal tribunals or courts;
-
-Working experience as a magistrate, prosecutor, criminal defence lawyer, or the equivalent;
-
-Demonstrated experience and skills in the development of training modules targeting different categories of audiences;
-
-Full acquaintance with the Court’s procedural system and case law;
-
-Good knowledge of the Common Law and Continental systems of law;
-
-Sound research skills in the legal field, in particular with respect to comparative and international criminal law;
-
-Extensive experience in analysing complex and novel legal issues and in developing innovative and creative solutions;
-
-Excellent drafting skills and ability to prepare legal opinions and memoranda within short deadlines;
-
-Excellent interpersonal skills and written, spoken and presentational communication skills;
-
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, with appreciation of diversity;
-
-Capability to work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues working within other sections or organs in order to achieve organisational goals and timeliness of work;
-
-Excellent computer skills and ability to use relevant software applications, in particular information databases and internet / intranet services.
KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES
Proficiency in both English and French is an essential requirement. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Russian) would be considered an additional asset.
