Staatkundige ontwikkelingen

Anote Tong is reelected as president with 42.2% of the vote, defeating Tetaua Taitai (35%) and Rimeta Beniamina (22.8%). Turnout is about 68%. On January 20 Tong announces his cabinet with himself as foreign minister, Teima Onorio as internal affairs minister, and Tom Murdoch as finance minister.

In presidential elections, incumbent Anote Tong wins about 65% of the vote and Nabuti Mwemwenikarawa about 33%. Turnout is about 50%. In the new cabinet sworn in on October 23, Natan Teewe becomes finance minister; Tong remains foreign minister and Amberoti Nikora internal affairs minister.

In the first round of parliamentary elections, 18 of the 44 seats are allocated, President Anote Tong being among the successful candidates. A second round is held August 30.
